[Winchester Record Office document reference - 21M65/E13/1/88].  Fairly self-explanatory.  Probably connected to the 1796 case of complaint against Peter Geary, the Newport Minister.  See William Witt's Statement in the 1796 action.


We the Churchwardens and others the Principal Inhabitants
of Newport Do hereby certify that William Witt the Clerk
of the Chapel of Newport in the Isle of Wight in the County
of Southampton and Diocese of Winchester is well known
to Us to be a Person of honest Conversation and sufficient
for his reading writing and other Qualifications necessary
for his Office Augst. 12th 1795
