William ASHMAN, son of George & Sarah ASHMAN born 21 Feb 1804, bapt. at Depden Suffolk, died 18 Jul 1881, bur.23 Jul 1881 marr.21 Oct 1831 at Newmarket Harriet KING born 2 Jun 1805, bapt. at Great Wratting died 2 Mar 1889 William ASHMAN Came into the Parish between 1831 & 1833 as Farming Bailiff to John PHILLIPS Esq. - he subsequently held the Fox and Duck Public House - after giving that up he lived in Mr PHILLIPS house, now known as the Grange. In the year 1870 when I came into the Parish he was doing a good business in the Corn and Coal Trade - In ....... he was taken ill, and became paralyzed - lingering on till 18 Jul 1881, when he died. The widow & her daughter Jane went to live in Kelshall for a time, keeping Mr HALL's house - and then removed to Royston 7 Dec 1887. J.G.H.
