Groom's father was George HANCOCK, whose occupation was 'Independent'.
Bride's father was James Eli TRENCHARD, a merchant.
Notes: Following the early deaths of both parents, their youngest three
children would have become the responsibilty of the local authorities of St Olave
District. The children must have been sent to the South Metropolitan Distrct School, a residential school at
Sutton, Surrey, because that is where they were for the 1881 census, a year after
their father's death. The other four children presumably had to fend for
themselves, and in 1881, all were working (and lodging) at various locations
not too far from the Rotherhithe home they had previously shared with their parents
and younger siblings.
