[10131] Source: Approximate year of birth only, calculated from:
1861 census of St Helier, Jersey - aged 24, born England
1871 census of Rotherhithe, Surrey - aged 34, born Dorset Weymouth

[10132] Source: St Mary's Baptisms 1831-1840, transcribed by Bob Stone from the Bishops Transcripts, LDS Reference 1239212 & 1239213, at the Weymouth & Melcombe Regis Online Parish Clerk site.  Charles was the son of George (a servant) & Jemima HANCOCK.

[10133] Source: Copy of GRO death certificate.  Despite the absence of a middle name, this must be Charles Christopher HANCOCK.  He was probably age 43, rather than 42, but he was definitely a cook by trade.

[11794] Source: Scanned copy of Jersey marriage register at Ancestry.co.uk.  Groom's father was George HANCOCK, whose occupation was 'Independent'.  Bride's father was James Eli TRENCHARD, a merchant.

Notes: Following the early deaths of both parents, their youngest three children would have become the responsibilty of the local authorities of St Olave District.  The children must have been sent to the South Metropolitan Distrct School, a residential school at Sutton, Surrey, because that is where they were for the 1881 census, a year after their father's death.  The other four children presumably had to fend for themselves, and in 1881, all were working (and lodging) at various locations not too far from the Rotherhithe home they had previously shared with their parents and younger siblings.
