In the Name of God Amen  I
John Allen of Henley upon Thames in the County of Oxfordshire being of sound
& disposing mind memory & understanding do make publish & declare this my
last will & testament in manner and form following that is to say first &
principally I commend my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God who gave it
hoping for redemption through the merit of my blessed redeemer Jesus Christ
& my body I commit to the earth to be buried in a decent & proper manner at
the direction of my Executors hereinafter named & as to the worldly estate
wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I dispose thereof as follows I direct
all my just debts & funeral & testamentary expences to be paid & satisfied I Give
& bequeath unto my Son John Allen the Sum of fifty pounds unto my Son
Daniel Allen the Sum of forty pounds unto my Son William Allen the Sum of
twenty pounds unto my Daughter Mrs Sarah Garrat Widow of Mr Charles
Garrat
the Sum of five pounds unto my four Grand Children Children of my said
daughter Sarah Garrat the Sum of five pounds each the same to be paid & payable
to them when & as they shall attain their respective ages of twenty one
years and I Give & bequeath unto my Brother Richard Allen the Sum of ten pounds
All which said several legacies I direct shall be paid & payable respectively
(except those given to the children of my said daughter Sarah Garrat at the end
of twelve months next after my decease Also I Give & bequeath unto my
three daughter Elizabeth Frances & Ann one hundred pounds Stock each in the
three pounds per cent reduced Bank Annuities to be transferred to them within
three months after my decease I Give devise & bequeath unto my daughter
Eleanor Allen the house & premises in the occupation of Mrs Birkhead to
hold the same unto her my said daughter Eleanor Allen & her assigns for
& during the term of her natural life & from & immediately after her decease I
Give & devise the same & every part thereof with the Appurts unto & at the use of
my Son Thomas Allen & my said three daughters Elizabeth Frances & Ann Allen
& to their respective heirs & assigns for ever to be equally divided between them
share & share alike as tenants in common & not as joint tenants Also I Give
devise & bequeath unto my said Son Thomas Allen & to my said three daughters
Elizabeth Frances & Ann Allen & to their heirs & assigns all that my messuage or
tenement wherein I now dwell situate on the South side of Hart Street in
Henley upon Thames aforesaid with the Storehouses Yards Garden & Appurts to
the same belonging to hold now & to the use of them said Son Thomas Allen & my said
three daughters Elizabeth Frances & Ann their respective heirs & assigns for
ever to be equally divided between them share & share alike as tenants in
common & not as joint tenants Also I Give & bequeath unto my said Son Thomas
Allen & to my said three daughters Elizabeth Frances & Ann all & singular my
Stock in Trade & also all my household furniture plate linen china books &
other effects which I shall be possessed of at the time of my decease situate &
being in & about my house & premises wherein I now dwell in Henley upon
Thames aforesaid to be equally divided between them share & share alike to hold
the same with the Appurts unto them my said Son Thomas Allen & daughters
Elizabeth Frances & Ann their Executors & Admors to & for his & their own proper use
& benefit & it is my meaning & I do hereby desire that they my said Son Thomas
& my said three daughters Elizabeth Frances & Ann shall carry on in partnership
together the trades or business of a Grocer Soap Maker & Tallow Chandler which
I now carry on in Henley upon Thames aforesaid & I hereby desire my said
daughters Elizabeth Frances & Ann to allow & pay unto my said Son Thomas all
of the profits of the said trade or business the yearly Sum of ten pounds over &
above his share of the profits of the said trade for the trouble he may have in
managing conducting & carrying on the same provided always nevertheless & it is my
meaning & desire that if either of them my said Son Thomas or daughters Elizabeth
Frances or Ann shall be desirous to retire from the said trade or business & shall
signify such his her or their wish then I do hereby order & direct any or either
of them so wishing to retire to give unto such other of them my said Son Thomas
& daughters Elizabeth Frances or Ann as shall not wish to retire from the said trade
or business twelve Calendar months notice thereof in writing for that purpose
& that if any or either of them my said Son Thomas or daughters Elizabeth
Frances & Ann who shall wish to retire from the said Business & shall give such
Notice as aforesaid then & in such case I hereby direct such of them my said Son
Thomas & daughters Elizabeth Frances or Ann or such of them who shall wish to
retire from the said Trade or business to sell to the others of them & such of them
who shall not wish to retire shall take & purchase the share of the said messuage or
tenement & Stock in Trade of him her or them so retiring at such fair & or
reasonable price as the same shall be valued & appraised at by two persons
to be indifferently named & chosen between them the one on the part of him
her or them so wishing to retire from & the other on the part of them him
or her so wishing to continue in & carry on the said Business & in case
such two persons shall happen to disagree in such their valuations then
such price or Sum as the same shall be appraised or arrived at by a third
person or umpire to be indifferently named & chosen by such two persons
whose determination shall be final Also I Give & devise unto my Son
Edward Prascey Allen & my brothers in Law Thomas Piercy of Sheep House in
the parish of Harpsden in the said County of Oxford Gent & John Burton
Abear of the parish of Shiplake in the County of Oxford Gent & the survivor of
them & the heirs & assigns of such Survivor all those my four freehold Messuages
cottages or tenements situate & being on the north side of the Hill in Henley
upon Thames aforesaid with the Gardens & Appurts thereto belonging to
hold the same with the Appurts unto them the said Edward Prascey Allen
Thomas Piercy & John Burton Abear & the Survivors of them & the heirs &
assigns of such Survivor to the uses upon the trusts & to & for the ends intents
& purposes following (that is to say) Upon trust that they the said Edward
Prascey Allen Thomas Piercy & John Burton Abear or the Survivor of
them or the heirs & assigns of such Survivor do & shall as soon as conveniently
can be after my decease either sell & dispose of the same either separately
or together & that either by public auction or private contractors they my
said trustees shall think best for the most money & best price or prices
that can be reasonably had or gotten for the same & the monies therefrom
arising I direct shall sink into & become a part of my residuary personal
estate hereinafter by me given & bequeathed & I do hereby charge & make
liable all & singular my real & personal estate with the payment of the
several legacies hereinafter by me given & bequeathed & as to all the rest
residue & remainder of my Estate & Effects whatsoever & wheresoever & of what
nature or kindsoever not hereinbefore by me disposed of  I Give devise &
bequeath the same & every part thereof unto & to the use of them my said
Son Thomas & my said three daughters Elizabeth Frances or Ann their
Heirs Executors Admors & Assigns for ever according to the nature of the
said estates to & for his & their own use & benefit to be equally divided between
& amongst them share & share alike as tenants in common & not as joint
tenants & I do hereby declare & direct that the receipt & receipts of my said
trustees & the Survivor of them or the heirs of such Survivor shall be to
the purchaser or purchasers of all or any of the trust property & Estates good
& available discharges in law & Equity for so much & such Sum & Sums of
money as shall be therein & thereby expressed or acknowledged to have been
received & that no such purchaser or purchasers shall be obliged to see to the
application of his or her purchase money or be answerable for any
misapplication or nonapplication thereof & I do hereby nominate & appoint
the said Edward Prascey Allen & the said Thomas Piercy & John Burton Ab
ear joint Executors of this my Will & declare that neither of them my said
Trustees or Executors herein before named or the Heirs Executors or Admors of
any or either of them shall be answerable or accountable for the acts deeds receipts
defaults or payments of the other or others of them or for any further or other
Sum or Sums of money then each shall respectively actually receive
notwithstanding the giving or signing or joining or concurring in any
receipt by way of conformity only & that it shall be lawful for each of them
in the first place to retain & reimburse to himself & themselves respectively & to
allow to each other out of the said trust premises or any part thereof all
such costs losses charges damages & expences as they shall respectively
sustain expend or be put unto in or about the execution of this my Will or
any of the aforesaid trusts or in anywise relating thereto any thing in
this my Will contained to the contrary in any wise notwithstanding & I do
hereby revoke & make void all former & other will & wills by me at any time
heretofore made & declare this only to be my true last Will & testament In
Witness whereof I the said John Allen the testator have to this my last will
& testament contained in four sheets of paper set my hand to the three
preceding sheets & my hand & seal to this fourth & last sheet thereof this
tenth Day of February in the year of our Lord 1810  J. Allen _ Signed Sealed
published & declared by the said John Allen the testator as & for his last will
& testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence & in the
presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto
Thos. Cooper Henley – Robt, Winder – Apprentice to Mr Allen – Sam Cooper  Clerk
to Mr Cooper.

Proved at London 25th Febry 1814 before the Judge by the oaths of Edward Prascey
Allen the Son Thomas Piercy & John Burton Abear the Executors to whom Admon was
granted having been first sworn duly to Admr.
