Notes: By the time of the 1871 census, Letitia had changed his surname
to De WITTE, as had her brother, Henry. The reason they did so is unknown,
but both used it thereafter, with one exception. At her 1875 marriage,
Letitia reverted to WITT, although she was De WITTE again when her children'
births were registered. Their mother, Selina, used WITT throughout her
married life, but her death was registered as De WITTE. The informant
was presumably one of her two children, because Selina was still a WITT in her
will.
