[4241] Notes: Henry was known by the nickname 'Lyncoln'. While serving in the the Royal Navy, Henry boxed for the Light Middle-weight Home Fleet Championship title. On the same night, an American boxed for the same, but professional world title. His name was Lyncoln. They both won of course, and Henry became known as 'Lyncoln'.

[347] Source: Copy of GRO death certificate, held by David Witt. George WITT died aged 76, a gentleman, of "myelitis disease between axis and atlas - 3 months". See George WITT's will.
[348] Source: Scanned copy of burial register, online at Findmypast.co.uk. George was 76, and lived at Rock Ferry, Cheshire.
[11432] Notes: Possibly George WITT & Margaret LAYE, who married at St Denis, York, on 18 May 1829, aged 30 and 26, respectively (online transcript at Ancestry. co.uk). But bearing in mind daughter Charlotte's middle name, Margaret's maiden name might have been GIBSON.
[11420] Source: Copy of GRO marriage certificate, held by David Witt. George was "Widower, Gentleman, resident at Wallasey, Cheshire, son of William WITT, Gentleman", and Eliza was "Spinster, daughter of Thomas IVEY, Officer in the Navy". Witnesses were John WHITE, Elizabeth Peak RATSEY, and Charles RATSEY. After George WITT's death in Cheshire in 1871, his widow Eliza returned to the Isle of Wight, and stayed with Rosa RATSEY, so there is possibly a WITT/RATSEY of IVEY/RATSEY connection that we don't know about, yet.
