Notes: According to the Therfield Rector's Lists of Villagers 1803-1807,
Lavender HAGGER was a 'dissenter', who failed to baptise any of his children,
or send them to Sunday School. Lavender had 4 children on the Lists for
1803-1805, and 5 children in 1806-1807 (possibly more born after 1807, but no
candidates found yet). The fact that none of the children were baptised,
makes naming them difficult, but we can be certain of 4 of them. Thomas
and Lavender HAGGER were baptised as adults in 1823, naming Lavender senior as
their father. Mary was still at home with her father in 1841 and 1851.
Thomas and Mary were named beneficiaries in their father's will. William's
descent is proved by his 3 surviving childrens' inclusion as beneficiaries [grandchildren]
in Lavender's will.
Lavender is mentioned in his brother George
HAGGER's will, proved 1834, because his daughters Naomi and Mary are named
beneficiaries. We know that Mary was definitely one of Lavender's daughters,
but there is some doubt about the existence of Naomi. It is possible that
the will writer made an error, and that Naomi was actually Lavender's granddaughter,
the daughter of his son Lavender.
Lavender HAGGER, and his son Lavender HAGGER, acted as 'sufficient Sureties'
for Mary HAGGER, when she applied for her late husband William's estate, in 1848.
This is shown on the Letters of Administration.
