No birth or baptism record has been found for Mary Ann HAGGER, but circumstantial
evidence points to her being the daughter of William & Mary HAGGER. The
censuses point to a birth around 1823 at Therfield, and her marriage certificate
gives her father as William HAGGER.
Apart from her presumed parents, William & Mary, there were two other William
HAGGERs baptising children at Therfield around 1823. They were William
& Catherine HAGGER, and William & Sarah HAGGER. Both couples baptised a
daughter Mary, in 1826 & 1828 respectively, AFTER the birth of Mary Ann born
c.1823. Unless one of them named a second daughter Mary (highly unlikely),
then Mary Ann born c.1823 must be the daughter of William & Mary. William
& Mary baptised a son William on 25 Dec 1823. Bearing in mind that adults
only ever seem to revise their age downwards for the census, Mary Ann was probably
born in 1822, and possibly even before her parents married on 9 Mar 1822.
There is another pointer to Mary Ann being the daughter of William & Mary.
Their youngest daughter Jane, roughly 10 years younger than Mary Ann, turned
up at Sevenoaks about 10 years after Mary Ann. Jane married James PURDAY,
and Mary Ann married John PURDAY. James and John PURDAY were possibly
brothers, but this is far from certain.

[2086] Source: Online GRO deaths index at FreeBMD.org.uk,.... "Mar 1945, Florence E BEAUCHAMP, 65, Edmonton, 3a 948". The age and place point to this being Florence Ellen PRACY, although without a copy of the death certificate, there is no absolute proof.
[11696] Source: Marriage register (image online at www.ancestry.co.uk). The groom's father was John William COBB, a baker.
[11697] Source: In 1911, William BROCKTON and Florence PRACY were living as man and wife. On the census form, they said they had been married for 10 years, which probably represents the time they had lived together, but no marriage can be found. Florence's husband, Alfred James COBB, was still very much alive in 1911, which probably deterred her from marrying William BROCKTON. But it did not deter her husband, who appears to have bigamously married Mary BASSETT in 1915.
[11761] Source: Copy of GRO marriage certificate. The groom was 36 (actually only 33) and single, and his father was Richard BEAUCHAMP, deceased, a coal porter. Although Florence Ellen called herself BROCKTON, she apparently never married William BROCKTON, and her real surname was still COBB. It cannot be coincidence that her first husband, Alfred James COBB, had died earlier in 1921, thereby freeing Florence to legally marry Richard BEAUCHAMP.
