Notes: Samuel SILLS was one of the numerous beneficiaries named in his
brother Jonathan's will, proved
in 1800. The will says that Samuel was, "at three Rivers in North America",
which is now the city of Trois-Rivières in Quebec, Canada. The will also
includes bequests to Samuel's wife, sons, and daughters, none of whom are named,
and none of whom Jonathan had met.
Searching the Net found several mentions of Samuel SILLS and his family at Three
Rivers, from the early 1760s onwards, including mention of children Edward, John,
Sarah, Jonathan, and Joseph. Subsequent research has revealed further
information about Samuel's family, including the name of his wife, although their
actual marriage is proving elusive. Sadly, Samuel died only 7 months after
his brother Jonathan. If any of Jonathan's wealth ever made its way across
the Atlantic, it was probably too late for Samuel.

[9490] Source: Parish register image, online at Ancestry.co.uk, which records Samuel SILLS as, "of the parish of Three Rivers Commissary and Port Master. One of the witnesses at the interment was Joseph SILLS, "son of the deceased".
[11843] Notes: It is assumed that Samuel and Sarah married somewhere in North America. If they had married in England, then Samuel's brother, Jonathan, would probably have met Sarah, but he states in his will that he regrets never having seen or known Samuel's wife or children. It is, of course, possible that Samuel & Sarah married in England shortly before departing together for a North American adventure, and without time for Sarah to meet the rest of the Sills family.
