Notes: Named as a beneficiary in his great-uncle Edward PRASCEY's will, proved in 1780. Edward was also a beneficiary
in his father Jonathan SILLS' will,
proved in 1800. Jonathan's will also requests that his son Edward, together
with two of his sons in law, Thomas GOULDING and Thomas RAMSAY, "... will upon
all necessary occasions during the lifetime of my said dearly beloved Wife furnish
her with their best advice assistance and protection".
Occupation
Edward had an ironmongery business in Dowgate Hill, City of London, from the
late 1780s, and possibly earlier. Rather oddly, Edward was a member of
the Glover's Livery Company, but only ever seems to have been an ironmonger.
He was at Dowgate Hill until at least 1816, when he disappears from London Land
Tax records. This may have been when he moved to faraway St Sidwells, in
Devon (presumably retired, aged 57).

co.uk..... "20 Dec 1830, Edward P SILLS, 71, St Sidwells, Exeter, ref: v7 p117".
The Consolidated Index to Devon Wills, produced by the kind people working on
the Devon
Wills Project, tells us that administration of the estate of Edward Prascey
SILLS was granted at Exeter in 1831, to Barbara SILLS, widow of St Sidwells,
Exeter. If Edward left a will, it has not survived, and would have been
destroyed during an air-raid on Exeter in 1942, anyway. All that remains
is an 'abstract', in the Death Duty (Estate Duty) Administration Abstracts, at
the The National Archives. The abstract is unlikely to contain much (if
any) additional information, but will be inspected in due course.
