Notes: At the baptism of John HAGGER's first child, Joseph, on 1 Oct 1815,
Reverend Weston wrote the following note in the baptism register:
"John HAGGER, the father of Joseph was an illegitimate child, and both at his
baptism 22 Mar 1789 and subsequently at his marriage 20 Oct 1814 was registered
as John HAGGER being the surname of his mother but at the period of the birth
of Joseph he was much more commonly known by the name of PRESTON, PRESTON being
the name of his reputed father - which occasions this explanation"
This confusion about John's surname resulted in some of his children being baptised
as HAGGER, some as PRESTON, and some as both.
