1808
[from Scope and Content] 1. John Hagger of Kelshall, sen, yeoman,
(brother of Martha Field)
---------------------------------
The last line provides positive evidence that "John Hagger of Kelshall, sen"
was the son of William & Martha of Therfield, because William Hagger's 1763 will
indicates that his daughter Martha married John Field. From John Hagger's
"sen(ior)" description, we can also deduce that (A) he had a son John, and that
(B) John jnr was still alive (in 1808).
Looking at the 1758-1786 Militia List booklet for Kelshall (from the Herts FHS),
there were two John Haggers, who must be the above father and son..... John
"Farmer" 1758-1768, and John "Farmer's Son" 1778-1786.
The only other Hagger in the Kelshall militia lists was William 1773-1786. His
start date indicates a birth c.1755, and he must have been another son of John
senior & Alice. This concurs with the Militia Lists data, which records
that John senior had 2 children.

Marriage Index of Hertfordshire also notes that the parties were, "John HAGAR
of Therfield and Alice MORTLOCK of Melbourn".
John & Alice HAGGER were dissenters of some kind, who failed to baptise either
of their 2 known children.

The baptism register gives the same date and address.
Approximate year of birth calculated from:
1901 census of Shoreditch, Middlesex -
aged 10, born London Bethnal Green, and named as John STELFOX. His mother,
inexplicably given the initials C F, was living with George STELFOX as man
and wife, and John Henry was listed as George STELFOX's son, with his birthplace
also wrongly recorded. Baptisms have been found (at Ancestry.co.uk) for
all of George STELFOX's other children, and there was definitely no John, so
John STELFOX must be John Henry PRACY.
